Cob Oven Construction

20th & 21st June 2006

This course used cob to build two ovens at The Pines Calyx in St.Margaret's Bay. Cob is a traditional form of building material made from a mixture of clay, sand, straw and water. It can be used for many types of building, including ovens.

The best mixing implements for cob are your feet! Below is a slide viewer showing the stages of construction. Click the start button to begin: the slides will change every 3 seconds; use the back and forward buttons to replay slides.

The course was led by Tom Trout who has built ovens like this all over the world.
